His major focus during the course of his legal career has been in the area of civil litigation. He has tried cases in a variety of areas with significant emphasis in medical malpractice wherein he has represented hospitals, dentists and doctors who specialize in a number of specialties including obstetrics, gynecology, orthodontistry, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, neurology, psychology, endodontistry, pathology, etc. He has also been involved in cases in the areas of anti-trust, products liability, personal injury, libel, slander, sexual harassment and professional credentialing. In addition, he has represented defendants in criminal matters. Mr. Carroll has also briefed and argued a number of matters before the Supreme Court of the State of Rhode Island. In addition to trying professional liability cases, his practice includes advising doctors, dentists and hospitals in the areas of risk management, employee issues and general liability concerns. He has also addressed matters involving certificates of need for medical facilities. Mr. Carroll has represented a number of health care professionals in matters involving the Board of Nursing and the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline of the State of Rhode Island. In substance, he has tried a number of matters on behalf of individuals, large and small corporations, insurance carriers and others. For a period of approximately 18 years, Mr. Carroll was General Counsel for a state-chartered, federally insured bank. Accordingly, he has significant experience in presenting matters to both federal and state regulatory agencies. Mr. Carroll served as Chairman of Liquor Control Hearing Board for the State of Rhode Island for a period of 10 years. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Mr. Carroll is a frequent lecturer, having made a number of local, regional and international presentations. Mr. Carroll is a cum laude graduate of Providence College and received his law degree from Boston College Law School where he served as an editor of the Law Review. An article which he authored for the Law Review was solicited for commercial publication. |
