Jeffrey J. Oates

A member of the firm’s Health Care Group, Jeffrey focuses his practice on professional malpractice defense. Jeffrey defends doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers in malpractice suits. He also engages in a range of matters including, but not limited to, general liability defense and judicial foreclosures. Jeffrey represents the firm’s clients before the Rhode Island Superior Court as well as before licensing and administrative boards, drafting discovery and dispositive motions and presenting oral argument.  

Prior to joining the firm, Jeffrey was a judicial law clerk for Associate Justices Sarah Taft-Carter and Joseph Montalbano in the Rhode Island Superior Court. Jeffrey was also a law clerk for the Honorable Erik Lohr in Connecticut Superior Court. In that capacity, he assisted Superior Court justices by conducting legal research and drafting memoranda on the issues presented.

Prior to his legal career, Jeffrey worked in a variety of capacities in the nonprofit sector. He served in AmeriCorps in Yuma, AZ as an anti-meth/heroin campaign coordinator for the Mayor and Chief of Police. He worked in community corrections addressing issues of prisoner re-entry and rehabilitation. He has a passion for criminal justice reform and environmental criminology.
